Sight To The Blind – Angola Day 19

Pictured above is Steve Collins. This remarkable man began his career as a pastor in Newfoundland. As one of the few educated people in the area, Steve shortly discovered the town’s people bringing all their sick to him. So off he went to medical school. In 1991, about the time I moved to Angola, Steve was also drawn here by the abhorrent health crisis. Trained in ophthalmology, he set about providing eye care to the eastern half of the country. Cataracts are extremely common in Angola – blinding thousands of people each year in this nation where people survive on just pennies a day. Over the last 10 years, Steve Collins has restored sight to some 11,000 individuals – all free of charge. I can hardly think of a life better lived!
