{"id":11,"date":"2010-01-22T00:32:02","date_gmt":"2010-01-22T00:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/amandaschmidt\/?p=11"},"modified":"2015-06-09T00:34:30","modified_gmt":"2015-06-09T00:34:30","slug":"two-children-from-the-local-orphanage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/amandaschmidt\/2010\/01\/22\/two-children-from-the-local-orphanage\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Children From The Local Orphanage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The last few days have been mostly work.\u00a0 Yesterday I hung out mostly in the ER.\u00a0 When I arrived, two children from the local orphanage were here. \u00a0Ages unknown but both less than 2. \u00a0Severely anemic (Hb ~3), one with malaria and one who had been abused and burned. \u00a0Both with marasmus. \u00a0It was an aweful thing to see.\u00a0 one had severe muscle wasting.\u00a0 there were back today for more blood. \u00a0The one with burns is now febrile and a little dehydrated\u2026.sad, sad, sad.\u00a0 Abe with the tracheomalacia has been in and out, had pneumonia, went hypoxic yesterday, almost apnic, who knows if he\u2019ll make it\u2026again sad, sad, sad. \u00a0But then there are patients who get better, which is always nice. \u00a0I\u2019ve seen lots of malaria, which is interesting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today has been slower. \u00a0We had the morning off and tried to find the neighborhood market which took way too long because we got lost. \u00a0And then of course we went looking for clothes and that doesn\u2019t usually start until the afternoon so after an hour and a half of walking mostly unhill, we came home empty handed.
