{"id":10,"date":"2009-04-17T19:29:17","date_gmt":"2009-04-17T19:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/andrewpeltier\/?p=10"},"modified":"2015-11-30T19:35:24","modified_gmt":"2015-11-30T19:35:24","slug":"sunlight-streaming-in-our-window","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/andrewpeltier\/2009\/04\/17\/sunlight-streaming-in-our-window\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunlight Streaming In Our Window"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/andrewpeltier\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2009\/04\/clinica_morava_newborn-e1448912113339.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16\" src=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/andrewpeltier\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2009\/04\/clinica_morava_newborn-e1448912113339.jpg\" alt=\"clinica_morava_newborn\" width=\"530\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a>We arrived safely in Ahuas, Honduras, on April 7.\u00a0 It\u00b4s hard to believe it\u00b4s already the 17th!\u00a0 We are settling in to our routine and finally finding a few minutes to borrow a computer and write a post.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our day starts around 5am when\u00a0either the sunlight streaming in our window\u00a0or the zoo outside\u00a0(roosters crowing, parrots squawking, dogs barking, geckos chirping (I don\u00b4t know how to describe the sound they make) wake us up.\u00a0 Sometimes we go for a walk or run, sometimes put in earplugs and try to sleep for a bit longer.\u00a0 Devotions with Dr. Rudy and his family are at 6:30, then breakfast, then start hospital rounds at 7.\u00a0 During the day, Carrie works in the administrative and accounting office updating their accounts and financial records.\u00a0 She enjoys\u00a0trying to decipher illegible\u00a0handwriting\u00a0in a\u00a0foreign language and then asking questions in that foreign language to clarify!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Andrew rounds on hospital patients\u00a0\u00a0(lots of births, trauma and injuries, a woman\u00a0with a stroke, a woman with appendicitis that we operated on, a boy who tore open his scrotum on a nail head, etc). Then clinic during the day &#8211; although it is not\u00a0really a clinic, it is an ER because people don\u00b4t have appointments and they show up any time of the\u00a0day or night. Interesting stuff &#8211; many people with malaria, parasites, injuries, pregnancy, etc. Completely different from what I\u00b4m used to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The food has been good, the people are hospitable (we eat breakfast and lunch with Dr. Rudy\u00b4s family and dinner with a family in town), the weather is hot, 80\u2019s to 90s but not too humid and nice in the morning and evening.\u00a0 And yes, Mom, we\u00b4re slathering with sunscreen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Overall, there have been many challenges and frustrations, but God has\u00a0provided and we\u00b4re being led to grow.
