I thought it would be hard to celebrate my birthday in a strange place away from my friends and almost all of my family.\u00a0 I was wrong. : )\u00a0 I had the most wonderful birthday thanks largely to my husband but also thanks to old friends back home and new friends in PNG.\u00a0 After lunch Andy, one of the doctors I have been working with here, came in to the ER with a delivery of flowers from Ryan along with a card.\u00a0 Beautiful flowers that you can see in the picture here!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then after work I noticed that there were a lot of birthday posts on my way on Facebook.\u00a0 Thank you to everyone who left me a message.\u00a0 Although I eventually caught on to Ryan\u2019s \u201cbirthday event\u201d (thanks Tracy), I felt very loved hearing from all of you back home.\u00a0 I miss you all!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

While I was checking email and facebook, Ryan was dragging his feet in the kitchen supposedly cooking me dinner.\u00a0 Then all of a sudden Elana, one of our friends here, came to the door with a large tray of food.\u00a0 Elana and the Bennetts made us the most amazing catered dinner.\u00a0 There was the best salad we\u2019ve had since leaving home (it\u2019s amazing how I miss romaine) and a curry chicken dish with rice.\u00a0 Such an amazing birthday dinner!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then we went to the weekly prayer meeting which is every Thursday evening.\u00a0 After we finished praying, everyone sang happy birthday to me.\u00a0 And when I say \u201csang happy birthday\u201d I mean they sang every birthday song ever invented.\u00a0 It\u2019s impressive.\u00a0 And someone had made a birthday cake as well.\u00a0 So I was able to celebrate my birthday with my new PNG family too who also made me feel incredibly loved even though they\u2019ve only known me for a couple weeks.\u00a0In all, I had an amazing PNG birthday!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
