It is a great experience to have the theory of the hybrid course come to life in real people!\u00a0 Today I was in on the delivery of a new baby.\u00a0 The mother found out after she became pregnant that she was HIV +.\u00a0 She started Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) to Prevent Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT).\u00a0 Mom delivered a beautiful baby girl.\u00a0 The baby was posterior presentation.\u00a0 The cord was around the neck but the cord was clamped and cut and everything turned out well.\u00a0 Hopefully the baby will not be HIV +.<\/p>\n

I also had a newly diagnosed sickle cell patient in the ER.\u00a0 He had been having unexplained episodes of pain and he actually asked us to test him.\u00a0 The test came back positive for Sickle Cell.<\/p>\n

It is official!\u00a0 My presentation will definitely be on Ebola and I am presenting this on Friday to all staff.\u00a0 Mr. Botwe is eager to have all staff present and he is highly encouraging staff to attend.\u00a0 The challenge is to present the infection control recommendations within this low resource environment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
