From Uncertainty to Belonging in Shenyang<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Before arriving in Shenyang, I had a multitude of ideas about what my time would be like. I couldn\u2019t help but think: how am I going to survive in China? I don\u2019t know the language well, and everything is written in Chinese characters. I felt nervous and anxious. Coming from the United States, my exposure to the Chinese language and culture was very minimal, and therefore, it was hard for me to grasp the idea of adjusting to another culture that I was not used to being a part of. <\/span><\/p>\n

But once I arrived in Shenyang, my preconceptions changed. I was met by the wonderful staff of the H\u2019Image Clinic, who made sure I was comfortable and safe. Spending the past few days with them has shown me the culture of camaraderie and community in this city. <\/span>Although I was not familiar with the language, the citizens of Shenyang always took the time to help me, even if it meant only pointing at pictures or using single words. I did not feel any judgment from them. With that said, I am excited about my stay here and look forward to learning more about the culture and community.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
