{"id":20,"date":"2007-06-16T20:43:56","date_gmt":"2007-06-16T20:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/jenniferhicks\/?p=20"},"modified":"2015-07-18T20:49:14","modified_gmt":"2015-07-18T20:49:14","slug":"good-things-going-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/jenniferhicks\/2007\/06\/16\/good-things-going-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Things Going On"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello again!\u00a0\u00a0The trials continue..today was an emotionally exhausting\u00a0day.\u00a0\u00a0The kids here are often literally at death\u2019s door before they\u2019re\u00a0brought in.\u00a0\u00a0And so much effort goes into reviving babies that are\u00a0practically dead, that well babies don\u2019t get the attention they need\u00a0and crash too.\u00a0\u00a0Please pray for 10 year old Ajay Kumar.\u00a0\u00a0He was\u00a0brought here and abandoned.\u00a0\u00a0I met him two days ago wondering around\u00a0the children\u2019s ward with tennis balls in his pockets, a very sweet and\u00a0innocent boy.\u00a0\u00a0Today he is in ICU.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s shocking to see how quickly\u00a0kids go here.\u00a0\u00a0I think I\u2019ve fallen in love with this one.\u00a0\u00a0I wish I\u00a0could adopt him.\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s so innocent and so alone, the story of a lot of\u00a0kids here, neglected until they\u2019re practically dead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The woman that I mentioned that was poisoned is still in the ICU.\u00a0Today when I went in to check on Ajay, she was having a psychotic\u00a0episode due to the drugs she was given (I\u2019m told that this was\u00a0actually a good thing, a sign that the drugs are working), anyway, she\u00a0latched on to me and wouldn\u2019t let go, screaming Didi Didi! (Sister,\u00a0Sister!) and a bunch of other things I didn\u2019t understand.\u00a0\u00a0I tried to\u00a0find out what she was saying, but was only told that she had gone mad.\u00a0She seemed terrified.\u00a0\u00a0I felt as if she was begging for someone to\u00a0save her.\u00a0\u00a0I asked Dr. Baby last night what will happen to her.\u00a0\u00a0She\u00a0said that in these cases, they are stabilized and they go away\u00a0smilingly back to the families that poisoned them.\u00a0\u00a0There\u2019s not much\u00a0else to do since there aren\u2019t really any enforcements for women\u2019s\u00a0protection.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s very sad and scary for these women.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On a less depressing note, I ventured out yesterday with Sofia for an\u00a0adventure outside the compound.\u00a0\u00a0We walked over to a lepor colony\u00a0about 15 minutes from here.\u00a0\u00a0I have to give them credit. They\u2019re doing\u00a0well for themselves there.\u00a0\u00a0They\u2019ve created their own little society.\u00a0They raise chickens and cows, weave their own fabric, and sell it all.\u00a0They\u2019ve created their own local economy.\u00a0\u00a0Each family has a house\u00a0with two rooms and a kitchen.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s actually very impressive, the\u00a0cleanest most civilized corner I\u2019ve seen in Raxaul so far, by far.\u00a0It\u2019s run by catholics and funded completely by a source in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There really are\u00a0good things going on.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s just hard to focus on the happy cases when\u00a0there are cases like Ajay\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0He was begging an old woman the other\u00a0day, calling her grandmother, to stay with him.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019ll have some more\u00a0happy stories for you next week, I promise!\u00a0\u00a0In the meantime, please\u00a0keep these kids in your thoughts and prayers.\u00a0\u00a0There\u2019s a baby in the\u00a0nursery whose mother died during delivery;
