{"id":186,"date":"2010-03-09T21:36:20","date_gmt":"2010-03-10T03:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/nicholascomninellis\/2010\/03\/09\/186\/"},"modified":"2016-01-03T00:52:44","modified_gmt":"2016-01-03T00:52:44","slug":"186","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/nicholascomninellis\/2010\/03\/09\/186\/","title":{"rendered":"INMED\u2019s New Mission Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"nigeria.jpg\" href=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/nicholascomninellis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2010\/03\/nigeria.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/nicholascomninellis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2010\/03\/nigeria.jpg\" alt=\"nigeria.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over this last week I&#8217;ve been writing my 2010 INMED theme address &#8211; one that I&#8217;ll make to about 15 universities and residency programs throughout the Midwest this spring. &#8220;Serving The Forgotten&#8221; is not only the theme for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inmed.us\/events\/exploring-medical-missions-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\">2010 INMED Exploring Medical Missions Conference<\/a>, but after detailed consideration the INMED Board of Directors chose to make this part of INMED&#8217;s mission statement as well.\u00a0\u00a0I am struck by the fact that some of the most forgotten people are those afflicted by natural disasters &#8211; ones that\u00a0go totally unnoticed! For example, the Indonesia Earthquake in September, 2009, affected 600,000 people, killed 1,177, caused $2 billion in damage &#8211; and in North America we never even noticed!\u00a0Another unnoticed disaster: Nigeria&#8217;s meningoccal epidemic Spring 2009 sickened 35,000 people, killed 1,701.
