\"tropics-map\"Fresh out of family medicine residency I was eager to polish my skills in tropical medicine just before taking assignment in Angola, southern Africa. The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research offered one of the most reputable courses at the time, and I was thrilled to be accepted into their program in spite of my non-military background. I spent the summer of 1987 at their location in Washington, DC, and while the professors possessed esteemed\u00a0credentials I found the course sorely lacking in addressing of cross-cultural and health leadership skills.\u00a0Fast forward twenty years, now is my personal opportunity to make good on what was lacking at Walter Reed. June 1-12, 2009, INMED is offering our first International Medicine Intensive Course<\/a>. In designing the curriculum, I sought to more beyond the traditional topics addressed in the tropical medicine schools of Washington, Liverpool, Brussels and Peru by adding emphasis on cross-cultural competency, designing appropriate health interventions, and personal skills for international living. \u00a0My excitement over this upcoming course is palpable, and I am thrilled to see so many individuals register to join us!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
