{"id":64,"date":"2015-04-24T15:16:56","date_gmt":"2015-04-24T15:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/?p=64"},"modified":"2015-04-24T15:16:56","modified_gmt":"2015-04-24T15:16:56","slug":"the-last-shift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/2015\/04\/24\/the-last-shift\/","title":{"rendered":"The Last Shift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Everything has a beginning and ending.\u00a0 Today was my last day at the Macha Mission Hospital.\u00a0 There was no doubt that I learned so much being here for 4 weeks, and got a lot of hands-on experience.\u00a0 It was much more than an \u201cinternational medicine\u201d rotation \u2013 it was summary of various rotations such as surgery, anesthesia, radiology, OB\/GYN, pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, infectious disease\u2026\u00a0 List continues.\u00a0 In a way, I was so glad that I did this rotation at the end of my 4<sup>th<\/sup> year of medical school, because I knew a little bit of something, and I knew what I did not know!\u00a0 However, this rotation gave me the most confident to be a physician, and I definitely got a clear idea of what my near future is going to be like!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have a mixed feeling of leaving Macha.\u00a0 I am excited to be back in Lusaka and travel for a few days with my friends and then continue my journey to Zimbabwe for a few weeks, but I also feel there are so much more that I can learn, and there are a few patients I admitted who are still in the hospital \u2013 especially a 2 year-old kid with severe malnutrition.\u00a0 Just before leaving hospital, I went to see him.\u00a0 He looked much better and is gaining weight.\u00a0 I wish he recovers quickly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040267.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-65\" src=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040267-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"P1040267\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040267-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040267.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040273.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-66\" src=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040273-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"P1040273\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040273-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/inmedblogs.us\/taiseisuzuki\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/04\/P1040273.jpg 336w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today was also the LAST DAY of being a medical student!!\u00a0 No more short white coat, but no more excuses\u2026\u00a0 A scary thing!\u00a0 I decided to leave my white coat behind, and give it to someone working at the Macha Mission Hospital.\u00a0 The white coat is no longer white, especially being in an African country, but it has many stories.\u00a0 Good bye, short white coat.
