My journey, guided by faith, has taken me to new places where I’ve encountered diverse cultures, witnessed spectacular landscapes, and most significantly served as an instrument of God’s unconditional love. This adventure began simply as a requirement for my Diploma of International Public Health (DIPH) at INMED, which included a mandatory clinical rotation. I selected my homeland, the Philippines, for this part of the program. I went into it without any specific expectations, trusting only that the Lord would guide my mind and heart toward His purpose.

In the province of Leyte, specifically Tacloban City is one of the places that I have been led to. I’ll be working with Mercy in Action, specifically with one of their birthing Clinic Cumpio Midwife Clinic located at the town of Tanauan and The Midwives Way at Basey, Samar.

Mercy In Action, a non-profit organization focuses on establishing birth centers to be able to provide mothers and children free maternity care for over three decades now. Their mission is to give women a place where they are treated with utmost respect and compassion. They have provided quality health care to over 17,000 newborns and mothers.
I had the pleasure of meeting Nerissa Cumpio, owner of the Cumpio Midwife Clinic and The Midwives Way birthing center, along with her dedicated team of staff, midwives, and mercy kasamas (companion). Beyond offering free maternal care, their commitment extends through the 1000 Days Program. This initiative is designed to ensure babies reach their maximum growth potential from conception through their second birthday, helping to cultivate strong future generations.

I am eager to see what my time here holds and hope to be guided in taking actions that will create a lasting impact.
