Our commitment to the 1000 Days Program continued as we traveled to various locations across Tanauan, driven by the goal of ensuring every child reaches their optimal growth potential. Today, I had the privilege of working alongside Mercy Kasama Tin, who shared our full itinerary. We were scheduled to visit the families of several babies under her direct care, including Trina Aures of Lapay, Nezy Magayones of Amanluran, Jamiaca Resos of Pago, Isaac Maceda, Jeremiah Grace and Yirah Azucena of Sto. Niño. These visits immediately brought into focus the unique challenges and diverse daily struggles faced by each household. Yet, despite the obvious difficulties of their lives, one thing stood out: the parents’ profound dedication. They really follow the advice given by the Mercy Kasamas, prioritizing their babies’ healthy development above all else.

This commitment is critical because many of these families live far from the town center, creating significant barriers to basic medical care, such as routine check-ups. The reality of this isolation strengthened how vital outreach initiatives like the 1000 Days Program truly are. This program, spearheaded by Mercy in Action and the Cumpio Midwife Clinic, is a lifeline and a bridge of necessity. It ensures that essential care, attention, and necessary resources are brought directly to the families’ doorstep who lack the means to reach them. This program also gives light to some living situations that the families have which are clearly difficult, some have the same issues which is proper water supply.

Beyond the medical care, I found myself drawn to the incredible resilience of the people. Despite their hardships, they possess an inspiring ability to find joy in the simple moments. A perfect example was seeing a child relaxing soundly in their “duyan,” or hammock. This piece of cultural item, often suspended between two sturdy trees, symbolizes peace and nature.

Watching that pure, unburdened happiness served as a powerful, gentle reminder: even in the midst of our challenges, we must consciously seek moments to rest, find tranquility, and recharge our minds and hearts.
