Today marks the official start of our community outreach. This will be the first of many home visits we conduct as part of the broader commitment to the 1000 Days Program. For this initial series of visits, I am paired with a wonderful colleague, Habegail, a dedicated Mercy Kasama (Companion). We have a full and meaningful itinerary ahead, checking in on several infants to monitor their growth and development. Our list includes Edward Salceda, Henzley Caindoy, Allesia Kensley Importante, and Alger Calupaz. We are excited to engage with these families and ensure these little ones are thriving during this crucial stage of life.

I feel fulfilled and engaged by the activities we carried out today. Every home visit allowed me to truly connect with the lives of the families we serve. A particular highlight was celebrating the milestone of Alger Calupaz, one of the babies under Habegail’s care, who reached his First 1000 Days (his second birthday). It was incredibly heartwarming to see his excellent progress—a direct result of the continuous monitoring and, importantly, the dedicated, unending efforts of his parents, especially his mother. During our visit, we reinforced essential nutritional guidelines by providing fresh fruit and repeating the importance of breastfeeding. We stressed that breast milk is a true “golden liquid”, containing the best and most perfect nutrients every child needs to thrive.

As rewarding as the home visits were, the journey also exposed me to the realities of life in some of the areas we traveled through. It was genuinely heartbreaking to witness the socioeconomic challenges faced by these communities. I saw the struggles caused by lack of proper water supply that can expose these individuals to various health risks.

Also, the difficulty many families face due to their remote locations, often situated far from the main road. This isolation complicates their daily lives, making it a significant challenge to access necessities, attend school, or commute to work.

Seeing this gap ignited a new, profound sense of purpose within me: to work harder and serve more so that I might contribute to meaningful solutions. This experience was a powerful reminder that every household is unique, fighting their own silent battles.
