This nine-year young girl was born with congenital cataracts and entirely blind only until this year. That’s when her mother brought the girl to Boa Vista – the eye hospital on the Angolan coastal city of Benguela. John Clements, a fellowship trained American ophthalmologist is pictured her beside her. He operated on the first eye in the spring time, removing the cataract and replacing that opaque lens with a clear one. Just image, to be nine-years old and suddenly for the first time gaining your sight! Saturday morning I was on hand to watch John examine the girl just after her second eye was operated. Mother was standing by and jumped for joy, clapping her hands, and exclaiming “Oh Doctor Clements, my daughter can see! She was destined to life of poverty and abuse, and how has received her vision!” John and Lori Clements, your two years serving in Angola are a life extremely well lived!
