This week I enjoyed making presentations at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and the Cox Family Medicine Residency in Springfield, Missouri. But the highlight was Friday morning, March 26, at Kansas City’s historic Hotel. The venue was Ingram’s Magazine‘s 2010 Heroes in Healthcare Awards, where INMED was honored among the recipients. Keynote speaker for this event was none other than the actual Patch Adams – portrayed by Robin Williams in the 1997 movie. While I find some of his views to be overly hopeful (healthcare professionals working for no compensation; patients paying nothing for care received), I admire Patch for upholding the virtue of compassion and for raising the voice of concern for the have-nots among us.
